Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) is a non-profit, voluntary initiative of Bangladesh Fundamental Research Institute (BdFRI). It was launched on 24th October 2005 in Dhaka. The initial idea is to create a broad organization where the Open Source and Open Content volunteers and professionals can exchange their ideas and embark on new initiatives. In the last year after formation BdOSN has matured into an independent organization with partnerships with other Open Source based organization and individuals.

Seminar at SoftExpo 2011: Open source, open opportunity |

At the BASIS SoftExpo 2011, Bangladesh Open Source Network has organized a un-seminar followed by an open discussion. "Open source, open opportunity" was the title of the seminar. The speakers of the un-seminar discussed on the perspectives of open source philosophy as well as its business implications. Among the the speakers, Mr Fakruz Zaman discussed the spirit of OSSI approaches. Mr Mahey Alam Khan discussed the process of localization and informed that the software internationalization could be a way of good business.

BdOSN organized the first English Olympiad at Kanihati |

We are very glad to announce that, in collaboration with "Hafiza Khatun Memorial Trust" Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdONS) has organized the first ever English Olympiad in Bangladesh. The event was held on the 16th October, 2010 at Kanihati, a very small village of Kulaura Upazilla, Maulvi Bazar.
From Dhaka, Sylhet, Kumilla and Rajshahi volunteers came to Kanihati to arrange the event successfully. Among the guests the Dr. Mohammad Zafar Iqbal, Dr. Yasmin Haque the professors of SUST, Kasfia Ahmed the General Manager of Win Incorporate, Forkan-Bin-Kashem the General Secretary of BASIS was present on the event.

BdOSN participating Digital Innovation Fair at Ctg. |

BdOSN is participating in the Digital Innovation Fair in Chittagong. The Fair will be inaugurated at 2.30 pm on Chittagong Gymnasium, Stadium.
BdOSN stall is no 17. There will be a demonstration of Open Source education tools Moodle in the stall. Besides anyone can collect latest Ubuntu, Open Education CD, Freelance and Open source books from the stall.
There will be a Seminar at 10am tomorrow in the fair. Munir Hasan the GS of Bdosn will presented a key-note on Digital Bangladesh : Goals and Achievement in the seminar. All the members, well wishers and others are cordially invited to attend the Digital Mela. The mela will last till 13th 8pm. |

BdOSN launched IT Tips service by SMS |

Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) launched its IT tips service through sms on 2nd March 2010 at BCS Digital Expo. Professor Dr M Zafar Iqbal formally launched the service be registering himself for the services. In his opening remarks he wishes that the new generation will come with new ideas and project to make the country proud. Omar Shehab, the project Manger from BdOSN explained that the registered user will get a IT tips every day through this service.
